00:08:46 It's like I always like to say you're special, just like everybody else.
00:08:51 And that doesn't mean you're not special.
00:08:56 Kind of means that nobody's special.
00:08:58 But we all have diverse interests and skill sets

00:09:07 We're very capable of a lot as a species, as individuals.

00:11:42 But what I meant about making up for lost sleep is
00:11:48 I was frozen when I logged off last week, and
00:11:53 what the audience didn't hear because I watched the show back
00:11:56 was just me on a frozen screen, perfectly still.
00:12:00 And but what I was saying,
00:12:02 because I was really moving, I wasn't frozen in real life.

00:12:11 immediately, and I signed off with my catchphrase.

00:13:21 But honestly, the people that were involved in this, are retired or dead.

00:13:32 at least acknowledge it isn't what they're telling us.
00:13:36 It draws an apologist
00:13:39 for the the mainstream narrative,
00:13:43 which is ridiculous, but that's why he's on the show.
00:13:46 I need a balanced,
00:13:49 widespread view points
00:13:51 to, anchor me, bring me down to earth.
00:13:55 So, and someone to argue with, is it,
00:13:58 it doesn't do me any good to have two people on the show that agree with me.
00:14:03 So I'm lucky in that respect because neither one of these guys
00:14:06 will ever agree with me, which is fantastic.

00:14:26 That means knowing everything that's happened is happening and will happen.
00:14:30 Free will and our nations are incompatible.
00:14:35 And they're both
00:14:38 very much a part of Christian indoctrination.
00:14:41 So one of them has to go.
00:14:43 You pick.
00:14:48 The, the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
00:14:53 Is a miracle.
00:14:57 And if miracles happen,
00:15:00 then God can intervene in
00:15:05 the real world in human affairs and worldly affairs.
00:15:10 If you believe in intercessory prayer,
00:15:14 then, well, there are some studies.
00:15:17 1 in 90 9 or 98, I'm not sure.
00:15:20 There's 1800, participants.
00:15:23 They, the control group, healed.
00:15:27 They were hospital.
00:15:29 They were hospitalizations.
00:15:31 The control group, I know and pray for the the test group had people
00:15:35 making intercessory prayers for them.
00:15:38 And both groups recovered, almost exactly the same rate.
00:15:43 I think it was actually in favor of the not the control group, but
00:15:46 there have been other studies that have shown slight variations
00:15:50 on either side, but the average works out to the same.
00:15:54 So, I would say the intercessory prayer would be more effective
00:15:58 because of the placebo effect.
00:15:59 If you believe you're being healed, than you will.
00:16:01 But the the control groups in every case
00:16:05 also believe they're being healed because they were being treated.
00:16:09 So there's that I think,
00:16:12 vicarious redemption is immoral.
00:16:15 I think having, an eternal punishment
00:16:20 for a finite crime is disproportion in it.
00:16:26 So Christians.
00:16:31 As I was raised,
00:16:32 we have a lot to figure out.
00:16:36 And the small groups, it's fun to pick on the Mormons.
00:16:40 The morons of latter day Saints.
00:16:44 Or Scientology.
00:16:46 Because, let's see, Joseph Smith was a convicted con man who came up
00:16:51 with these rules to benefit himself to get younger and younger wives.
00:16:54 So he had all had them.
00:16:56 So that that you can see right through.
00:16:59 L Ron Hubbard was just a fiction writer, and you're believing a bunch of,
00:17:04 alien space gobbledygook as as real life.
00:17:10 Like, even I don't think Star Wars is real,
00:17:14 and I'm not sure I'd like it to be.
00:17:15 But regardless.
00:17:18 And then you look at, 911
00:17:23 and I think it was a ploy to make us hate Muslims.
00:17:26 Well, anybody who prays and I know intercessory prayer doesn't work.
00:17:30 That's it doesn't disprove the existence of God,
00:17:34 but it does disprove the
00:17:38 ability for that
00:17:40 God to participate in what's going on.
00:17:43 And by placing him outside of time and space,
00:17:47 it places him directly outside of the definition
00:17:49 of the word exist.
00:17:53 But I get that anyway.
00:17:56 So we were told to hate Muslims because of this thing.
00:17:59 Well, every person I've met that prays daily is a good person.
00:18:05 So why do I have a problem with this?
00:18:07 Well, the church I was raised, and it was a great community.
00:18:09 You should see the Amish.
00:18:11 Mennonite communities help each other. They're great.
00:18:13 They're great community.
00:18:16 And the god of good people.
00:18:19 What I'm more interested in is the truth.
00:18:21 So we're looking at Scientology, Mormons, Muslims.
00:18:24 Like they're crazy.
00:18:26 Well,
00:18:28 the the the Jewish, the
00:18:30 traditional Hebrew beliefs doesn't have a whole.
00:18:34 And and that's the,
00:18:37 the eternal punishment for the finite crime.
00:18:41 Another thing I like to talk about is conspiracy theories.
00:18:44 And, that leads us to roll the clip.

00:18:52 I'm going to make an argument most scientists
00:18:54 say out loud because it's uncomfortable and it sounds like arrogance.
00:18:58 My argument is this we are probably alone.
00:19:02 Not we haven't found anyone yet.
00:19:05 Not the universe is big.
00:19:06 Who knows?
00:19:08 Actually, alone.
00:19:11 The only technological civilization that exists
00:19:14 or has ever existed within any distance that matters.
00:19:19 And I'm going to back that up with evidence.
00:19:21 But first, a distinction, because without it,
00:19:23 this whole argument collapses into a straw man.
00:19:26 I am not saying life is rare.
00:19:28 Life in the microbial sense.
00:19:30 Bacteria, single celled organisms clinging to a hydrothermal vent,
00:19:34 surviving in acid
00:19:36 is probably scattered across the cosmos wherever liquid water and chemistry meet.
00:19:40 That's not the claim.
00:19:42 The claim is narrower and stranger.
00:19:45 What is vanishingly rare is the chain of events from that first wet
00:19:49 rock to a creature that builds a radio telescope and points it at the sky.
00:19:54 That chain on Earth
00:19:56 took 4.5 billion years.
00:19:59 And when you look at the actual steps that are required,
00:20:02 you start to realize how implausible it is that it happened even once.
00:20:07 Here's the number that should stop you cold.
00:20:09 Scientists who study that seriously have tried to quantify
00:20:12 how probable intelligent life is per planet.
00:20:16 Some of the best work on this from a team at Oxford ran the calculation honestly,
00:20:21 using real distributions of uncertainty rather than wishful point estimates,
00:20:25 and concluded there's a roughly 50 to 99% probability
00:20:29 that we are alone in the observable universe, not the galaxy.
00:20:34 The observable universe,
00:20:36 13 billion light years in every direction.
00:20:40 And that's before you factor in the problems we're about to discuss.
00:20:45 So if we're alone, why?
00:20:48 And if we're not?
00:20:50 Where is everyone?
00:20:52 The Fermi paradox ought to be the same question.
00:20:55 And the answer starts not with telescopes or equations, but with a single cell.
00:21:00 2 billion years ago, doing something that has apparently never happened twice.
00:21:04 I'm going to make an argument. That was it.

00:21:14 Saturday afternoon in 1970, the whole family

00:21:33 begins to spin, followed by the burst of a siren,
00:21:35 and it starts a frenzy of shoppers sprinting to converge on 11.
00:21:37 You don't even know what I'm saying yet, but they're already running.

00:21:41 we look into the era of the blue light special to contextualize
00:21:44 some of our viewers who are not old enough to experience this firsthand.
00:21:50 And that's why I caught myself in the middle of the monologue on.

00:22:00 The Kmart corporation got rid of its

00:22:05 and that meant the Hawaii

00:22:11 And that was the start of the downward spiral.
00:22:16 That became no more Kmart
00:22:19 or Kmart family dining, which would've died out way earlier.
00:22:24 But I enjoyed those little American eggrolls.
00:22:28 Oh yes.
00:22:29 I have a quick Ikea store behind it first.
00:22:31 Long before there was a discount giant, Kmart was the Krusty Corporation,
00:22:35 a chain of five dime stores dating back to 1899.
00:22:37 Incidentally, do you have a soft spot for live dime stores?

00:22:43 Maybe by the early 60s, the dime store did you know

00:23:21 He wanted a way to clear the stock instantly.
00:23:24 Well, not really borrow.
00:23:25 I guess you could put money down
00:23:26 little by little until you finally earned that $9 pair of pants.

00:23:35 So you grabbed the blue rotating police, like, from the automotive department
00:23:37 and strapped to it.
00:23:38 Could you imagine if they did this nowadays?

00:23:46 Get on the store intercom to announce a flash sale were not on.
00:23:49 The result was absolute pandemonium.
00:23:52 Within minutes, that wrapping paper was gone.
00:23:55 Kresge corporate car window.
00:23:56 By the late 60s,
00:23:57 like special, was a mandatory feature in everything across the country.
00:24:00 So why was it so? Why?
00:24:01 Why would grown adults sprint toward
00:24:02 a flashing light for a 20% discount on darkness? You want to know?
00:24:05 It's pretty easy to understand your life back then.
00:24:07 This was long before
00:24:08 apps and rewards points, but what we did have was TV
00:24:10 game shows like sale of the Century and Supermarket Sweep.
00:24:11 So the Blue Light special made Kmart a living game show.
00:24:14 It was a treasure hunt.
00:24:14 You never knew what was gonna happen or what would be
00:24:15 the featured product on sale under the light.
00:24:17 Also, these deals out there 15 minutes, it triggered that whole the race is on
00:24:21 buy now or regret it later instinct.
00:24:22 They were the first one that I recall.
00:24:24 The holidays to sense that for a brief moment.
00:24:27 Oh, I don't care.
00:24:28 Yeah, I loved holidays and that broke the tedium of life in suburbia.
00:24:31 Oh, like special. Enjoyed this golden age from the mid.
00:24:33 I do remember when the movie theater,

00:24:42 So that was that was a dumber version of that.

00:24:55 It might be jewelry, but regardless, they set up a little booth
00:24:59 and they get permission from the store, and then they announce,
00:25:02 in three minutes we'll be having a special giveaway.
00:25:06 And all you have to do is go there, fill out this form, sign up for something.
00:25:09 You get a free gift,
00:25:11 but then you're bombarded with a bunch of crap unless you give them
00:25:14 but also information.
00:25:15 So, that is very much because I've seen people rush
00:25:20 to get it over and get their free gift.
00:25:23 And then they
00:25:24 realize it's a timeshare and they're screwed.
00:25:27 But can we spend a minute on this, this draft board for soccer?
